I've been tagged!! Thanks to Shinelikecrazystudio, GrandPrairieWoodworks, and Bebstreasures for tagging me!
Well I guess this means I have to tell you ten things about myself. Well lets see . . .

1- My husband, George, and I live in the mountains of Western North Carolina along with our three children; Christopher age 11, Matthew age 10, and Michelle age 7. I also have two step-daughters Jennifer age 18 and Brittany age 12. Yes, we are very busy parents.

2- I used to be a stay-at-home mom. When my daughter started Kindergarten I went back to work. I started two years ago with the county school system. I currently work as a Custodian at an elementary school. I love working for the school. The kids are really something else. But boy I can tell you some stories. The people I work with are great and the hours are awesome.

3- I have been doing crafts since I was a teenager. I love doing handmade things. I have done cross stitch for many moons which I still enjoy doing whenever I get the time to actually do it.

4- I love making greeting cards. I love how you can take a stamp and make it in so many different looks. There are so many different neat techniques that make the cards look so great. Plus I love how everyone loves recieving these cards. I may have only been doing this for a year now but it has become one of my passions.

5- My family and I love to go dragracing. Every year we go to Bristol Dragway in April. The kids really get into it. The first year we took are daughter she fell asleep while the top fuel dragsters were running. Now if you have never been these cars rattle your eardrums. My children's favorite is the John Force Racing Team and Tony Schumacher.

6- I love to be outdoors in the summer time. My family loves to go camping. We go as many times as we can. There's nothing like getting away from things and enjoy the outdoors and family time. Actually where we live to some it would seem we are "camping". We live about 20 miles from town and don't have any neighbors. Just sitting on the deck on any given night is so relaxing.

7- We have two dogs in our family. One is a black lamb and chow mix who is about 7 years old and then we have "Jr" who is the pup of other. He is about 6 months and also has blue heller in him. Having the dogs sure do help sometimes, we have some uninvited guest arrive from time to time. Good ole bears. Yep I was standing on the deck on day no one at home but me and a bear came out of the woods. Our dog chased it away.

8- My kids are my world. I cherish everyday with my children. Even though sometimes it gets pretty crazy. They are each so unique and enjoy life that it makes life more enjoyable.

9- I have always enjoyed a good book. My favorite author was Stephen King. But I also like true crime books as well. It amazes me how some humans can be in this world. Its scary at the same time. I don't get to read as much anymore but its always been my favorite way to relax.

10- Finally, I enjoy getting know others. I love my family and friends. Its what makes the world so much better. I love participating in school events with my children and interacting with others. I am laid back person who gets along with most anybody. And most of all I love creating things that others will enjoy just as much as I.

The parade has begun and our first float is our Guild Master Tammy. She owns and runs the store CutsiePoochie on artfire. She has been set up there since May and she also sells locally in Georgia.

She started designing and making dog apparel when she got her chihuahua. And since these poochies are cold nature a little sweater sure does help them out.

My Week Wrapped Up!

Well I have been back to school for a week now. The first couple of days before the official start was just crazy and BUSY. Teachers trying to get their classrooms ready for the first day of school. You see I am a custodian at a elementary school. Besides cleaning my area I also help the teachers in anyway I can. Mostly they need things moved around or even need more desks and chairs for their room.

This year we have more children in the classrooms than usual. It really isn't fair to the students nor the teachers. Some rooms are so full its even hard for me to get the vacuum around the desks. My heart goes out to them. But I work at a great place. Everyone works together to keep our students safe and ensure they all get the education they deserve.

First day of school went very well. The children were so excited about being back. The kindergartners were all so excited about being at school. You could see it on their faces. Of course the teachers are constantly telling them to stay in line, don't do that and just having plain old fun with them.

This morning I seen a mother who just walked her little one to kindergarten and the next time I seen her she was sitting on the bench in the hallway fighting her tears. I remember each and every time I sent my three to kindergarten and it does for some reason bring those tears. I guess we realize our little one is growing up to fast and a new chapter in their life has begun.

An exciting new contest is starting this Saturday August 22nd. Some of us guild members of You Can Sell It is having a contest in which you don't want to miss. As the week goes on I will introduce to you the stores that are participating in the contest. To enter the contest a purchase made in one of the participating stores will qualify you to be entered in a drawing for a $25 gift certificate to use in one of the participating stores of your choice. Childrens Birthday Cards

At A Special Touch a new line of cards will be posted. Children birthday cards and party invitations is in the works. We either have children of our own or at least have friends and family members that do. Theres nothing like giving a child the perfect birthday card to make them feel special. My children love their birthday cards that they get from friends and family members and of course as a mom I end up scrapbooking them into their birthday page for that year.

Birthday parties are big for children. I know year after year my children bring home party invitations from their friends throughout the school year. There will also be invitations listed that will be great for any boy or girl having a party.

There will be a line of birthday cards for both boy and girls specifically for ages one to five. Its seems like the first five years are the fastest and so much happens during these years that we tend to celebrate these more than any other.

My Special Touch has added 8 new fall cards perfect for the upcoming holiday season. They are all made from 80 lb acid and lignin free cardstock and decorative embellishments. The cards are left blank for your personal message to be added. The cards would be perfect for saying Happy Thanksgiving to your long distance relatives or some are perfect to drop a note during the fall season. Last Full Week

Well this week is my last full week of summer vacation. Next week I return back to school. Which is great cause I miss the kids and my fellow co-workers. But it also means I have to start juggling work and my online store. Thankfully I am an organized person and this week I am working on what my schedule will be and getting everything organized. My goal for after returning to work is to continue promoting as much as I can. I will be posting new cards on Sunday evenings. This will give me all week to work on new projects. This week is also my last week to get my own children ready for school. We still have shoe shopping and haircuts to go. Tonight more fall cards are going to be posted in my studio. And don't forget I will still be featuring an artisan every Saturday. And remember support handmade.

My First Sale on Artfire!!!!

Boy today has been an exciting day in many ways. First thing this morning I had a sale from my artfire studio. Thanks to VaBeachQuilters for her purchase. I was tickled pink that I had accomplished my first sale. But then on the other hand I was worried about my 7 year old daughter. She had a doctors appointment to get her arm checked out. She had some kind of lump there and it concerned me. Boy the mixed up emotions of the excitement of the sale and the concern over my daughter was keeping me busy this morning. After my daughters x-rays the doctor informed us that she had a Osteochondroma on her humerus bone. Its really nothing to concern our selves about right now unless its starts hurting her arm. Later after her bone growth is done the doctors will remove it. I was relieved to her it wasn't too serious and now just hope that it doesn't interfere with the growth of her arm. Of course she is fine but mommy is worse for the wear. Hope the sales keep coming and everyone have a good rest of the day!!

A Special Touch News

Well we have started the month of August and I know there are plenty of things that we all have to do this month. Getting our children ready for back to school and doing our last family getaways. At A Special Touch there are several events going on. First is the promotion of buying a set of Christmas Cards you will recieve two additional cards free. Second is the promotion of buy any 3 cards and you will recieve 2 cards free. And last sign my guest book at the bottom of my blog page and you will be entered into a drawing at the end of the month. The winner will recieve a 10 pack of "SNOW" Christmas Cards. The winner will be notified on September 1, 2009. Also during this month Halloween cards will be posted in my studio. Back to School

August is back to school month. Boy it has been a long summer. The kids are getting restless and are so ready to go back to school. And of course mom is too. Since I work for the school system I am also looking forward to going back to work. Its nice to have the time off but I miss the kids and my fellow colleges. I enjoy working for the school. Its perfect hours and a great envirnoment to work in. The little ones at school are so sweet and you can see it on their faces how much they love school. Back to school also means them god awful school supply list. Then its the new clothes and shoes they need. One of the down sides of back to school. Summer is great to spend time with family and friends. Its a good time to recharge and relax a little. Back to school is so much fun for children. They see their friends again and get the chance to make new ones. For the little kindergartens they are so excited about being at school, well at least most are. There are some that are absolutely terified about being at school. But they fall into place and start enjoying making new friends. Gotta love back to school time. Everyone enjoy the summer that is left.

Promoting Wheres the Time?

Setting up a artfire studio is one thing. But promoting is a whole new ball game. When I started at artfire and learned what needs to be done to get your name out in the world boy was I overwhelmed. Not to say that I am used to it yet. I am working on going on the different sites to put my name out there. It hasn't been easy to do and to keep making cards. There is just not enough time in the day to get to everything that I must do. I keep notes on what is done on each site and what still needs to be done. This is my only way to stay sane in this internet world. My husband has been really trying to have an understanding in all this. That helps out alot. It will never end but that isn't a bad thing though. Even when sells pick up the work will still be at the very least the same if not more to keep your customers coming back and referrals from them. Since I love making the cards this has not been a chore but a passion to get my name and my cards out there. So that others can enjoy these cards just as much as I enjoy making them. So yes there isn't enough time in the day but really is there ever enough time the day to do everything that we would like to do. Anybody that has a skill in making handmade products I encourage you to go and set up on artfire and go for your dreams. The world needs artist like us to provide the rest of the world a great and better product. Pursue your dreams and never give up!!

Family and Business

Juggling family and a business is no easy task. I am new at all of this and it has been time consuming for sure. I know it will pay off soon but there is not enough time during the day. I guess thats why I am up half the night. I finally got to the point where I realize the world wasn't made in one day so how can I expect my business to built in one day. I made me a plan of attack on juggling things that need to be done. I put family first for sure but I try to set designate time for making more cards, promoting my site, and seeing other artist studios. I know as I get used to this it will become more routine. I love card making and selling my cards helps my family. So I take one day at time and breath. And even though I love doing this my family will always come first.

There are so many places to get the materials needing in doing my cards. I use different outlets to obtain my materials. I shop from one cataloge mainly but sometimes you like going into a craft store and browsing the aisle. There are so many different types of materials and its nice to be able to shop for them locally. Whats bad is when the store doesn't hold up when it comes to keeping the shelves stocked. Recently I have been thru this. I was looking for a specific cardstock color they selled and checked that store on several different occassions to see if was back on the shelf. Needless to say it wasn't. I went to another store but of course they don't sell the same brand. So where does that lead you? Well you either hold out and keep checking or like myself is having to order it thru the main branch website. Easy solution right? It is but you don't get to come across the sales or new materials that came out shopping online as much. I won't give up the stores but when you need materials and can't wait the main stores website is your next step. Next blog on family and the business.
